History Professor receives Community Based Research Grant

Dr. Rosalind Beiler, Associate Professor of History, received a Community Based Research Grant from the Office of Research and Community Engagement at the Burnett Honors
College to partner with History Revealed, Inc., a historical research organization that focuses the public education of lesser-known groups of people from the past.

The Community Based Research Grant is awarded to projects that demonstrate community engagement and lead to a collaboration between community partners, students and faculty members. The grant’s objective is to support projects that seek to facilitate the mutual development of all members of the collaborative group. In partnership with History Revealed, Inc., Dr. Beiler will guide three undergraduates classes in transcribing and analyzing eighteenth century account ledgers from the Glassford & Henderson store at Colchester, Virginia.

History Revealed, Inc. is a recently created non-profit founded by Molly Kerr. While she began her career as a field archeologist, Kerr discovered she had a passion to present the
themes of history and preservation to larger audiences. The Department of History will also host Kerr as a guest lecturer where she will present her research on historical ledgers. The lecture will be held Thursday, September 7, 2017 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. in Colbourn Hall, 401.
